2 October 2020 Covid 19 update 2/10/2020
Dear Patient,
We have been working very hard to provide care to the patients most in need.
The extra precautions required to protect staff and patients, have been refined and are now our new normal. The staff and dentists have done and continue to do outstanding work under very difficult circumstances.
NHS Treatment
There are currently recommendations for NHS dentistry, which include giving access to patients with dental emergencies who are not regular patients at the practice. This, together with the extra time that we require for safe care, has meant that routine NHS care has been limited. We assess the needs of patients remotely and arrange treatment for those that are most in need. Treatments that generate an aerosol such as traditional drilling, require additional precautions and we have had to allow an hour after treatment with the surgery left empty after such treatment before the staff can enter to thoroughly clean.
Private Treatment
We are returning to providing regular care to our existing private patients although there is a cost adjustment to reflect the extra time an appointment requires. The practice has been undertaking much less private dentistry than in the past. We aim to restore some of this work, otherwise we will be forced to make cuts. Please contact the practice if you would like to discuss private care.
You will see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff. For example:
• The practice will communicate with you beforehand to ask some screening questions. We will send you some paperwork to complete. You’ll be asked those same questions again at your appointment
• We have hand sanitiser that we will ask you to use when you enter the practice. You will also find some in the reception area and other places in the practice for you to use as needed.
• We no longer offer magazines, children’s toys and so forth, since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect
• Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that you’re offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.
We will do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.
How you can help:
• With the exception of children and patients with carers, patients should come alone
• A distance of at least 2 metres must be observed if another patient is present in the dental practice
• Payment should be made by card where possible
• Staff will not shake your hand
• If you show symptoms following appointment booking, you should contact the practice by phone
• Please arrive a few minutes early at the practice. Please let reception know you have arrived by tapping on the side window, you will probably be asked to wait in your car.
• Please do not arrive without an appointment
• Patients should come wearing a mask if possible or be prepared to wear one.
We thank you for your patience at this very difficult time.
If you need to call us, please call between 9:00 am and 5:00pm Monday-Friday on 07419832628 or the surgery on 01604 706887
Thank You

Website 18 June 2020 Covid 19 update 22/06/2020
Dear Patient,
We have been hard at work in getting the various protocols in place to ensure the safety of staff and patients. We have finally managed to secure respitator masks. These also had to be fit tested and passed for each individual staff member so that we can start providing AGP’s (Aerosol Generating Procedures such as drilling and ultrasonic scaling). Our first appointments will give priority to patients in need that have contacted us over lockdown. We will also start contacting patients to resume or complete treatment that has been started
The treatments you are offered may be different to those you received before, depending on staff and equipment available. It will take some time before services return to what you previously experienced as normal.
While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety. Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice, and you may have seen this during your visits to our surgery. Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.
Our practice follows infection control guidelines made by the governing bodies. We are up-to-date on new guidance that has been issued. We do this to make sure that our infection control procedures are current and adhere to recommendations. These keep changing from time to time, but we are working hard to keep on top of the latest guidance.
You may see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff. For example:
We will do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.
How you can help:
Due to the current guidelines, after carrying out an AGP (Aerosol Generated Procedure ie drilling), at the end of that treatment, the room has to be left for one hour in order for the aerosol to settle. This is followed by a thorough cleaning of the treatment room including all surfaces. This is to ensure that all surfaces that have been contaminated are thoroughly disinfected. I’m sure that you can appreciate that we will see far fewer patients than we did previously because of this.
There is also a new patient journey which we have included as an attachment to summarise what to expect.
Finally, rest assured, we are the same dental practice, with the same staff, who all want to help our patients. However, we will look different due to the PPE we have to wear, and the journey will be a little different. All these precautions are to safeguard you and our staff.
If you need to call us, please call between 9:00 am and 5:00pm Monday-Friday on 07419832628 or the surgery on 01604 706887
Thank You

Dear patients
We are very pleased to announce that we are being allowed to re open for patient care from the 8th of June.
We will return to seeing patients on a gradual basis and will give priority to those patients who have been suffering with pain over the time of enforced closure and who have contacted us as dental emergencies.
The number of patients we will be able to see each day will be reduced due to:
• more stringent requirements for cleaning down surgeries between patients.
• different personal protective equipment (PPE) for many procedures considered routine in the past.
• a need to enforce social distancing between patients.
At the time of writing we have been told the date from which we can re-open but have not been informed of the protocols we will be required to follow. This date that has been announced has been sprung on us without warning! There is a joint task group dealing with this, who are publishing their recommendations in a few days. This is clearly not ideal, but we cannot re- open until we have all the required PPE for safe practice. As you are aware there is a shortage of PPE and we donated some of our stocks of PPE to Care Homes and Urgent Dental Care Centres. We were also reluctant to purchase PPE as we felt we were taking it away from the NHS and Care Homes!
Rest assured we are working hard to get things in place to provide safe dental treatment. The safety of our patients and staff is of paramount importance.
Please do not attend the practice without an appointment. Patients attending the practice will need to understand and comply with the changes being made to ensure safety.
If you feel you have a dental concern that is deemed urgent please contact the practice on 01604706887 and we will triage your needs. Our team are available on this number weekdays between 9am and 5pm.
Emergency calls out of hours should be to 111
Thank you for your understanding.
Kind Regards
Rowtree Dental Care
Dear Patients,
Due to the latest national guidelines all routine and urgent treatment has to be stopped. We are open but cannot have direct contact with patients. This is a difficult and fluid situation and we really want to help our patients but at present this is very limited. To help our patients we are taking calls for emergencies Monday to Friday 9am-5pm to provide support to our patients in the form of advice, analgesics or antibiotics. Emergency Local Urgent Dental Care systems are being set up, but these will only be for very urgent cases.
We appreciate the worry and distress dental problems can cause and will do all we can to resume normal care as soon as possible.
Dentists are being deployed in the wider NHS to assist in the national effort to save lives
